The monument is an 8-foot-tall pink granite slab with a bronze plaque designed by architects Page & Southerland and sculptor Raoul Josset. The Cuero community dedicated the monument on November 11, 1936. The monument was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 6, 2019.
