According to Strelitzia 29, p. 97, D. ixioides is a rhizomatous geophyte, 20–40 cm, stems grey-hairy. Leaves linear. Flowers in a corymbose panicle, enantiostylous, mauve, tepals ovate, long stamens twice as long as tepals, with anthers one-fourth as long as anther of short stamen. Sept.–Feb. Rocky sandstone slopes, Bokkeveld Mtns to George.
