DescriptionDiptera Sarcophagidae Miltogramminae Craticulina showing arista Kleptoparasite of Philanthus (cropped).jpg
English: Craticulina is a genus of flies in the family Sarcophagidae, but with unusual habits for sarcophagids: they lay their larvae on the prey of certain hunting wasps, usually fly-hunters. This species parasitises a South African bee-pirate (Philanthus diadema?). The fly is much smaller than the wasp, about 5mm long. This specimen was waiting on a dead leaf of a Syzygium outside a Philanthus tunnel. Not long after the photograph she went after a returning wasp.
