Yes

Purpose of use

The caption which accompanied the photo gave his initials as C.M. rather than G.N. and misspelled the town of Clogheen. These errors are relevant to his bio.

Replaceable?

This is one of very few photographs of Gilbert Potter that seem to have survived. Because it depicts him in 'mufti', instead of uniform, it is likely to have been a family portrait supplied by his wife Lilias, rather than sourced from the R.I.C. authorities. After exhaustive research, the only other images of him located were some group photographs (taken at the Depot, Phoenix Park) now in the Manuscripts Collection at Trinity College, Dublin
