Summary

Description
English: The ILLIAC I computer was one of two von-neumann computers constructed at the University of Illinois, and Donald B. Gillies (then a graduate student) helped in the checkout, and returned in 1956 to join the faculty of the Math Department at UIUC. This photo is circa 1957. Although the year is not exactly known, Betsy Gillies was pregnant 1957-8, 1959-60, and 1961-2 and D. B. Gillies returned to U-Illinois in the fall of 1956, so 1957 is a plausible year for this photo.
