The Reception Committee which held up our train expecting to take off the Czar, recovering from their disappointment.
" — from Williams
Español: Tropas Rojas
English: Bolshevik Red Guards or Red Army Men, c. late April, 1918. From Williams' account (see source, pp.198–202), it can be inferred that the photo was taken along the Trans-Siberian Railroad, somewhere between Omsk and Irkutsk. A soldier in the account describes these troops as local peasants and coal miners, so they are probably not, or not all, regular soldiers. The troops stopped and searched Williams' train in the mistaken belief that the imperial family was on board.
