Text Appearing Before Image: 10 years. Vancouver, the largestcity in the Canadian Northwest, is the commercialcenter of British Columbia. Since the first trainover the Canadian Pacific Railway arrived in Vancouverin May, 1887, the population of that city has increasedfrom 3,000 to 100,000, and its neighbor. New West-minster, has grown to be a city of 12,000 population.Vancouver has excellent water, rail and street transporta-tion facilities. The British Columbia Electric Railwayoperates 24 miles of track within the city and has a total of97 miles of track, centering in Vancouver. At the presenttime this road is being largely extended and many substantialimprovements are under way. The British Columbia Electric Railway now operates high-speed interurban lines to New Westminster on the FraserRiver, 12 miles, to Steveston at the mouth of the FraserRiver, about 20 miles, and a connecting service over theelectrified Canadian Pacific Railway tracks between Eburne,the midpoint on the latter line, and New Westminster.
