Engraving commissioned by the Philanthropic Society of the University of North Carolina (later the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) in 1858 and first published in 1858 in "A Memoir of the Rev. Elisha Mitchell: Together with the Tributes of Respect to His Memory, by Various Public Meetings and Literary Associations, and the Addresses Delivered at the Re-interment of His Remains" by Rt. Rev. James H. Otey, Hon. David L. Swain, et al.; published by J.M. Henderson (Raleigh, N.C.: 1858).
