Español: La de las aráceas es una familia de monocotiledóneas herbáceas bien representadas en los trópicos y más escasamente en la zonas templadas. Una de las especies más representativas de las aráceas mediterráneas es el Arum italicum L., en cuya morfología se pueden reconocer bien las características propias de la familia. Especialmente interesante en estas plantas es la inflorescencia, compuesta por una bráctea o espata que envuelve el espádice en cuya base se encuentran las verdaderas flores. La curiosa disposición de flores fértiles y estériles y de flores femeninas y masculinas, permite la polinización por parte de insectos que se ven atraídos al gineceo gracias a un reclamo oloroso. Las flores masculinas estériles impiden que estos escapen, quedando atrapados unos días, dejando el polen de otras inflorescencias de Arum en las flores femeninas. Tras marchitarse las flores masculinas estériles, los insectos quedan libres e impregnados de polen que,
posiblemente, irá a otra inflorescencia.
