Summary

Description
English: Own work based on "Hinduism : An Introduction", by Dharam Vir Singh.

Flag of vegetarianism, vegan, Ashoka Law, for the Abolition of meat (in India, in all the world).

The colours are saffron, white and green, like the flag of India, the country of Lord Ashoka. The navy blue wheel is called Ashoka's Dharma Chakra, with 24 spokes (after Ashoka, the Great). Each spoke depicts one hour of the day, portraying the prevalence of righteousness all 24 hours of it. Ashoka was a devotee of ahimsa (nonviolence), love, truth, tolerance and vegetarianism (and ahimsa is vegetarianism). Ashoka is remembered in history as a philanthropic administrator. In the history of India, Ashoka is referred to as Samraat Chakravartin Ashoka - the Emperor of Emperors Ashoka.

The white band represents peace and truth. The green band represents the happyness, prosperity, chivalry and protection of abundant natural wealth, while the two saffron bands represent disinterestedness, courage and sacrifice.

There are two saffron bands because the disinterestedness is important for the Human AND the Animal too : respect is for the animals and humans together : if you don't respect animals, you don't respect yourself. The french poet, Alphonse de Lamartine, said : "We haven't a heart for human beings, and a heart for animals - We have a heart or not "

The flag was designed by Dino Bishnoi (Dino Castelbou), a french hindu artist and vegetarian activist.
