Delagrave, pp. 160 : "292. - Algerian flag. - Capture of Constantine [1837]. Scarlet silk flame, framed by a green border and divided into two parts by a green band. The border and the band are covered with Arabic characters; the other parts of the flame are dotted with round shields, representing the different phases of the moon. This flag was taken from the great mosque of Constantine, during the capture of this city (October 13, 1837)."
  2. (in French) (1841) Revue militaire belge, Imprimerie de Félix Oudart, pp. 568 : "Behind the general staff marched some Arabs carrying the flags of Constantine (green and red with arabesques) and a tricolor flag."
