Notes

This is one of the water-colour drawings made by Georg Forster during James Cook's second voyage to the Pacific in 1772-1775.

The watercolour is listed by Sharpe 1906, p.184 and by Lysaght 1959 p. 288 as Plate 67. This is the number written on the right-hand side of the watercolour. The NHM lists this watercolour as Plate 66.

This picture was used by John Latham when describing the "Variegated goose".(Latham, 1785, p. 441).

The painting is the holotype for the species.(Medway 1976 pp. 53-54)
