Summary

Description
English: This etching was made after Ludwig Becker's death in Australia in 1861. In 1860 Becker was asked to join Robert O'Hara Burke's expedition from Victoria to the Gulf of Carpentaria, to collect specimens, and make maps and illustrations of the journey. He died on the way, of scurvy and dysentery. Ludwig Becker had been a member of the Melbourne German Club and Frederick Schoenfeld produced this 1861 lithograph for the club as a memorial portrait.
