Summary

Description George Yost was only 14 when he served aboard the U.S.S. Cairo, yet he had the foresight to keep a journal of daily activities of the Union Gunboat. The Cairo’s papers were lost when she struck a ‘torpedo’ and sank in 1862, but Yost’s journal survived to help others understand life aboard the ship.
