Summary

Description A gilt bronze Buddha statuette, possibly a Vairochana Buddha, from the Liao Dynasty (916–1125 AD) of northeast China, made during the 11th century. The right fist of the Buddha enclosing the left hand's index finger "symbolizes the unity of divine understanding and mankind's deluded knowledge," according to the Metropolitan Museum of Art caption for this artwork.
