Good Friday Baliuag, Bulacan procession: Apostolic Nunciature to the Philippines[1] Past Apostolic Nuncio[2]Giuseppe Pinto (10 May 2011 – present)[3]New Papal Nuncio Giuseppe Pinto arrives in Manila [4]Vatican’s official representative to the Philippines, Archbishop Giuseppe Pinto, arrives in Manila on Friday (July 15) to fill in the post left by formal Papal Nuncio John Joseph Edwards who was reassigned to Greece by Pope Benedict XVI last February. Archbishop Pinto was born in Bari, Italy on May 26, 1952. He was ordained as a priest on April 1, 1978 and holds a doctorate in Canon Law. He is fluent in Italian, French, English and Spanish. He entered the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See on May 1, 1984, and has served successively in Papua New Guinea, Argentina and the Secretariat of State in Vatican City. He also served as apostolic nuncio to Senegal, Cape Verde, Mali and Guinea-Bissau, and has been assigned as Apostolic Delegate to Mauritania. Prior to his current appointment, the archbishop was apostolic nuncio in Chile since 2007. A Papal or Apostolic Nuncio is the permanent diplomatic representative of the Holy See to a state or international organization.
