Media data and Non-free use rationale
Description A screenshot from the Glider PRO game showing an outside area in the "Davis Station" level. The actual Glider (a paper airplane) is near the left end of the area, to the left of the leftmost pillar and just underneath the overhang. The number of remaining lives (Gliders) and the player's current score are shown near the upper-right corner.

Use in article (WP:NFCC#7) Glider PRO
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) This screenshot provides users with illustrative and informative details regarding typical gameplay of Glider PRO along with details regarding elements of the graphical portion of the software and also assistance in interpreting critical commentary about the software. Among other things, the screenshot shows visual elements, overall style, the inclusion of "indoor" and "outdoor" elements, and the emphasis on openness and bright colors. As described in "Tricks of the Mac Game Programming Gurus" (Jamie McCormack et al., Hayden Books, 1995) on pg. 713, these latter aspects tie into the game's metaphor that includes sunny weather and summer vacation. In addition, the graphical play field is the main point of usage of Glider PRO and therefore it affects how the software is used and experienced by the user.
Not replaceable with
free media because
(WP:NFCC#1)
The Glider PRO software is used primarily via a visual play field which among other things incorporates elements of the game's metaphor. The screenshot provides informative details about the game's style and metaphor and assists with visual identification and interpreting critical commentary in a way that words alone would not. No freely licensed versions of the Glider PRO software are known to exist, and an image which was not derived from the visual portion of the software would not be faithful and accurate for the purposes of conveying informative details, facilitating visual identification, and assisting with interpreting critical commentary.
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) This screenshot is of lower resolution than the original (about 40% of the original 640 x 478 screenshot) and comprises a very small part of the Glider PRO software. In addition, the screenshot is used only in this article which is specifically about the software from which the screenshot was taken and the article contains only one screenshot from the software.
Respect for
commercial opportunities
(WP:NFCC#2)
The screenshot is being used in this article to provide illustrative and informative details in conjunction with encyclopedic information and to assist users in interpreting critical commentary about the software. These uses are different from the original market uses of decoration, marketing software and facilitating usage of the software. In addition, a single low resolution screenshot should not replace the market for higher resolution screenshots or for the Glider PRO software itself. It should not be possible to generate illegitimate copies of the software from this single screenshot.
