Found this one today, down by a stream. It's been high twenties here for a while, so the wet ground from last week's rain has gone. Streams are pretty useful now.
It was the biggest Neanurinae I've ever seen, at least 4mm, maybe a little bigger. And a very unusual one too. I have no idea so am relying on Frans for any kind of ID.
Neanurinae seem to be the most common type round here- all sorts of different ones. This one was by far the most dinosaur- like! And I've got another four species to post up yet...
This isn't the best photo in the world. Because I'm planning a book on the springtails of New Zealand and Tasmania, I'm saving the best photos for that! Feels very strange.
