DescriptionGowri Habba Protocol - Giving Arashina and Kumkuma.jpg
English: Gowri Habba Before the Gowri Baagna is given, tradition dictates that the receiver sits facing east, and the giver must stand facing the receiver and offer the turmeric and vermilion. After the gift is given, the younger person touches the feet of the elder asking their blessings as a mark of reverence. In some regions, sugar is given, and some people give sandalwood paste in addition to turmeric and vermilion. Note the yellow thread on the wrist. Those who undertake the Swarna Gowri Vratha wear the cotton thread dipped in turmeric around their right wrist. The thread is looped around a yellow chrysanthemum, which is not visible in the photograph.
