The inner wing opens to reveal evidence of a predator hit on the left eye spot. The spot and left tail (pseudoantenna) has given way like the shirt of a halfback and allowed the butterfly to live to see another day. I don't know the name of this butterfly. Richmond County, North Carolina, September 1. Thanks Pbelardo for ID.
