Summary
| Description | In 768 bouwde Lebuinus een kleine houten kerk. Deze kerk werd door de Saksische heidenen verwoest in 770. Lebuinus herbouwde haar in 771 en hij stierf er een jaar later. In 774 werd de kerk opnieuw verwoest maar zij werd in 776 herbouwd door Ludger.De eerste stenen kerk werd gebouwd door Bisschop Balderik. In 1040 werd de kerk door bisschop Bernold of Bernulfus verbouwd tot een romaanse basiliek. In 1235 en 1334 werd de kerk verwoest door brand. De huidige kerk werd gebouwd tussen 1450 en 1499. Het is een gotische hallenkerk. Ze is gebouwd op de funderingen van de 11e eeuwse romaanse basiliek. Eind 16e eeuw werd de grote gotische toren gebouwd (62,50m). |
