English: PORT MELBOURNE, VIC. 1908. PORT VIEW OF THE FIRST CLASS PROTECTED CRUISER HMS POWERFUL, FLAGSHIP OF THE IMPERIAL SQUADRON ON THE AUSTRALIA STATION. NOTE THE 9.2 INCH GUNS MOUNTED FORE AND AFT. HER 6 INCH GUNS ARE MOUNTED IN TWO STOREYED CASEMATES. THE LOWER GUNS WERE UNUSABLE IN A SEAWAY. THE TWO EMBRASURES IN THE BOW ARE FOR THE 12 POUNDER GUNS, THE LOWER OF WHICH WERE ALSO UNUSABLE IN A SEAWAY. 3 POUNDER ANTI TORPEDO BOAT GUNS ARE FITTED IN HER PROMINENT FIGHTING TOPS. |
