Description
日本語: 箱根関所。資料館も併設されている。
English: Sekisho (=check point) at Hakone, Kanagawa, used until 1869. During the Edo period, when the Emperor was in Kyoto and the Shogun ruled from Edo/Tokyo, checkpoints like these on the road between the two cities were used to ensure that no arms were smuggled, and that the family hostages (women) lodged by each feudal lord in Edo did not escape.
