English: Healey Dell Viaduct, Healey Dell Nature Reserve, Rochdale Healey Dell Nature Reserve is an important wildlife habitat. It is made up primarily of oak clough woodlands and the reserve also has important grassland areas as well as wetlands and ponds. Within the reserve itself you can find a range of important plant and animal species. The Dell also holds a number of important features dating back to the industrial revolution when the River Spodden was harnessed to power the looms and other machinery of mills in the valley.
The Dell is crossed by a spectacular viaduct which once carried the Rochdale to Bacup railway line. The redundant rail line now forms the main route through the reserve as a whole. Below the viaduct, near to where this photograph was taken, lies Fairies Chapel where, in the ancient water worn rocks, faces can be seen which have given rise to legends and tales adding to the richness of this magical valley.
