Dear Howard Grief,
I do apologise for not having replied sooner to your letter of October 19. I have now had a chance to go through your book, and have learned a great deal from it. These are tremendously important issues, on which your book throws important light.
I doubt very much if I will be asked to review it (and would certainly not be able to do so) while I am a member of the British government's Iraq Inquiry, but I shall certainly refer to it in my own work.
I wonder if you would be free to come to a talk I am giving in Jerusalem on Britain and Palestine, the documentary record, at the Jewish Historical Society of England - Israel branch, on December 30. If you are fre that evening, perhaps you could telephone Leonard Roselaar on 02 679 0587, and explain that I would like you to be one of my guests.
