English: In the picture, William H. Bell (servant to William Seward) is pictured identifying Lewis Powell (AKA Lewis Payne) to be the assassin that entered the Seward home on April 14th, 1865 and attempted to assassinate the Secretary of State William Seward. According to his 1865 testimony, this police line up took place at General Augur's headquarters in Washington D.C. just after Powell was taken into custody. “Identification of Payne by the Negro Servant of the Assassin of Sec.
