"This invitation was issued to William Sands Cox, founder of Queen's Hospital in 1840 as a clinical school for the Birmingham Royal School of Medicine. The invitation is richly illustrated and contains depictions of the kinds of activities that the organisers of the event wanted to associate with this park."
The Mayor of Birmingham requests the honour of the Company of William S. Cox, Esq. at the inauguration of Calthorpe Park on Monday the first day of June 1857, and to dinner at Dee’s Royal Hotel, at 11 o’clock, on which occasions His Royal Highness the Duke of Cambridge has graciously signified his intention to be present.
