Title
Armada 1588. 22nd July: the burning and capture of Miguel de Oquendo's ship San Salvador
Description
English: Digital reproduction of "Armada 1588. 22nd July: the burning and capture of Miguel de Oquendo's ship San Salvador" (Plate V, The Tapestry Hangings of the House of Lords representing the several engagements between the English and Spanish Fleets in the memorable year 1588)", an engraving created by John Pine (published June 24, 1739, T. Bowles in St Paul's Church Yard, & J. Bowles & Son at the Black Horse in Cornhill) from a delineation that he had commissioned Charles Lempriere to make of one of Hendrick Cornelisz Vroom's tapestries. The tapestries, commissioned in 1591 by Lord Howard of Effingham, commander of the British Fleet, were in turn based on charts and engravings made at Lord Howard's behest by Robert Adams, and were finished in 1650 (source).
