Summary

Description
English: John Eliot Memorial (also known as Eliot Terrace) - Nonantum, Newton, Massachusetts, USA. The origins of this memorial are obscure, but it was evidently built in 1879 as evidenced in that date on the memorial. Its inscription reads: "Here at Nonantum. October 28, 1646, In Waban's wigwam, near this spot, John Eliot began to preach the Gospel to the Indians. Here was founded the first Christian community of Indians within the English colonies."
