DescriptionJoy Huntington riding in the 2012 Golden Days Parade.jpg
English: Melanie Joy Huntington, née Shockley, is an American public relations consultant, indigenous activist and politician of Koyukon heritage. She is shown in this photo riding in the 2012 Golden Days Parade, supporting the candidacy of mother Dorothy Shockley (to her right with back to camera), who was running for the Alaska House of Representatives. During her tenure, Huntington was one of two Alaska Natives serving on the six-member Fairbanks City Council (the other being June Rogers, an Iñupiaq). This is significant in that Natives comprise approximately ten percent of the city's population, according to recent Census Bureau estimates.
