Description
English: The former main synagogue of Hamburg's German-Israelite Congregation was located at 19-20 an den Kohlhoefen in the New City district. Designed by Albrecht Rosengarten and constructed in 1859, it was the first synagogue in Hamburg positioned so that it was visible from the street, though it was nonetheless screened off by a wall. The building stood until it was razed in 1934 as an urban renewal measure.
Deutsch: Die ehemalige Hauptsynagoge der Deutsch-Israelitischen Gemeinde stand an den Kohlhöfen 19/20 in der Hamburger Neustadt. 1859 nach Plänen des Architekten Albrecht Rosengarten errichtet, lag sie als erste Hamburger Synagoge an einem von der Straße aus sichtbaren Platz, der dennoch durch eine Mauer abgeschirmt war. Im Zuge der Stadtteilsanierung wurde sie 1934 abgerissen.
