English: This is a monument to Kurt Eisner in Munich. It's on the sidewalk underneath the balcony where he was shot. The story goes that the government wanted to put a plaque on the wall, but the building's owner didn't want the bad publicity. The sidewalk, though, is civic property, so they put it there instead.
It reads: "Kurt Eisner, der am 8. November 1918 die Bayerische Republik ausrief, nachmaliger Ministerpräsident des Volkstaates Bayern, wurde an dieser Stelle am 21. Februar 1919 ermordet."
It translates to something like "Kurt Eisner, who proclaimed the Republic of Bavaria on November 8, 1918, and later became the prime minister of the State of Bavaria, was murdered here on February 21, 1919."
I took this picture myself during March of 2004.
