Description
English: Bonnat, one of the fashionable portraitists in France during the late 19th century, dedicated this self-portrait to his friend "Mr. Walters." Bonnat and the American collector were united by their enthusiasm for Antoine-Louis Barye's animal sculptures, and together they raised funds to erect a monument to the sculptor in Paris on the Île-Saint-Louis.
