English: Laser scanning of a fossil Hippopotamus tooth at Loughborough University, England. The tooth (a canine) was from a specimen discovered in river terrace gravels of Quaternary age near Derby in the late 19th century. Known as "The Allenton Hippo" it is now on display at Derby Museum and Art Gallery. It was being scanned in order to make a metal reproduction for a piece of public realm sculpture, by artist Michael Dan Archer.
