Leucocytozoon smithi.

Stained blood smear from a turkey infected with Leucocytozoon smithi. This parasite causes enlargement and distortion of the infected blood cell. The red blood cell nucleus (N) is divided in two halves that lay on either side of the parasite (P). The membrane of the infected cell is stretched into two hornlike points (arrows).
