Description
English: Illustration of worker poisoned by tetraethyllead at plants producing leaded gasoline, in the early 1920s. Workers referred to the fumes they breathed in the plant as "Loony gas". illustration New York Journal October 31 1924. A substantial number of workers at the plants developed dementia and several of them died. The caption reads: 'The terrible "Loony Gas" effects the victims differently - they will be perfectly normal - then suddenly burst into insane fury'
