English: This photograph features Lucile Atcherson Curtis, who became the first female American Foreign Service officer after passing the Foreign Service exam in 1922 with the third highest score that year. With the passage of the Rogers Act establishing the current merit-based, professional Foreign Service, the modern Foreign Service was created on May 24, 1924. On May 22, 2014, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry delivered remarks at an event celebrating the 90th anniversary of the U.S. Foreign Service. [American Foreign Service Association photo]
