This painting depicts an episode from the Kapi Parwa, itself an offshoot of the Ramayana: After Renjani and her brothers have been turned into monkeys, they are banished to the forest: Renjani meditates in the middle of a river, with her body in the water up to her mouth and feeding herself from anything which flows into it. She so attracts the attention of Siwa, who, passing in the sky, let his sperm fall in the water, where the girls swallows it and instantly becomes pregnant. From this magical intercourse was born a child half-man, half-god, who would become the white monkey of the Ramayana, Anoman.

The picture shows Renjani breast feeding the young Anomam under the shade of a banyan tree, while the creatures of the forest look on and bring food to the boy and his mother: we see heavenly nymphs (bidadari), several birds, two tigers, etc.
