DescriptionMaine service members march marathon and honor memories 131006-Z-XY123-002.jpg |
English: For the eighth year, service members gathered in Portland, Maine, to march the 26.2 miles of the Maine Marathon on Sunday, Oct. 6. The march, held in conjunction with the marathon, honors the fallen. Many carry pictures, buttons and ribbons of those service members who have died since the beginning of the war on terror. During the last two miles, family members and friends of the fallen join the march to complete the journey. "It's a chill up your spine because you've accomplished something and you're letting folks know that regardless of where the country is politically, we all stand together and we stand with the families of the fallen," said Maj. Grant Delaware, the executive officer for Headquarters and Headquarters Company 286th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, Maine Army National Guard.
