Description
English: Short piece, with photo, about Masajiro Furuya. This would date from the year of the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition (A-Y-P). Text says, "M. FURUYA. M. Furuya has been a resident of Seattle for 20 years. He has two stores in this city, at 216 Second Av. S and 806 Second av. [sic] He is a big importer and wholesaler of Japanese commodities, is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Seattle Commercial club and other organizations. Mr. Furuya raised a pool of $25,000 from the Japanese merchants of this city in subscription, and has contributed liberally towards making the fair a sucess. He is at the head of a corporation which has stores in all the principal Coast cities, and is rated as a millionaire. It is said of Mr. Furuya that he has done more to cement the friendship of the Japanese and Americans in the Northwest than all the legislators in Washington and Tokio." The $25,000 subscription would be the money for the "Streets of Tokio" at the A-Y-P.
