Description

In 1956, Maxine Frank Singer joined the Laboratory of Biochemistry at NIAMS, and in 1975, she moved to the National Cancer Institute as chief of the Nucleic Acid Enzymology Section in the Laboratory of Biochemistry. When Singer was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1979, she was one of the foremost authorities on nucleic acids—DNA and RNA—and helped to break the genetic code.
