  • Description: This is a cut out of the 1862 plan by Ravenstein of Frankfurt on Main. This area had been thoroughly changed first by the "Altstadtdurchbruch" ("old city cut thru") of 1904 by which many of the old insalubrely houslets were destroyed and wide thoroughfares for streets and a tramway line were created, and secondly by the bombing of the Second World War, which left over hardly anything. The current retro movement tries to make the area look as if the World War and its destruction had not happened at all, or rather that the utter destruction of the next war does not matter since we can turn back the clock as if nothing happened.
