Summary

Description

Ascension Rail (Mundia elpenor)

Drawing made by Peter Mundy around the year 1656

Of course Peter Mundy may not have been the worlds best painter, but he is the only one who left reports of this bird species which is otherwise known only by subfossil bones. This does not appear to be the original version of the drawing, but appears to be a copy of it that is distinct in some details (position of the toes), but is largely the same in posture.
