Description
English: First light was originally constructed in 1872 to guide sailors through the dangerous Shippegan Gulley, the current tower dates to 1905 and is a sloped octagonal tower measuring 15.5 meters (50ft) high. This lighthouse on a sand bar on Lamèque Island,.

Big Shippegan Lighthouse is one of nine octagonal wooden towers remaining in New Brunswick. The tower's third-order Fresnel lens has been replaced long ago with a Barbier, Benard et Turenne lantern, the only one remaining in the province.
