This is an extract from a NER hotels advertisement, showing the Royal Station Hotel, Hull. It is a trimmed scan I made from an original advertisement, which is in my possession. The advertisement was recovered from the body of NER coach No.501 during its dismantling in August 1996 by members of the North Eastern Railway Coach Group. No.501 was a four-wheel five-compartment full third built at York in December 1883 and withdrawn on 5 February 1912. It had a body length of 30 ft and a wheelbase of 19ft. At some time during its life No.501 was refurbished, which included lining the compartments, thus covering up this advertisement and protecting it. It is reasonable to assume that the image dates from the period 1880 to 1900.
