DescriptionNSWR Robert Stephenson long boilered type Class E17 0-6-0.jpg
English: NSWR Robert Stephenson long boilered type Class E17 0-6-0 No.18 in green livery at Trainworks, the New South Wales Railway Museum, Thirlmere, 31 March 2016. Of more or less standard Stephenson design, they were very similar to the class produced in 1843 for the UK York and North Midland Railway. R Stephenson built 9 in 1865-67 & 2 in 1878, Mort's Dock built 6 1870-71 and Vale & Lucy built 6 1870-73. They were withdrawn from NSWR service in 1889-21 but many were then sold to industry and survived many more years. No.18 was built in 1864 and withdrawn in 1896 and in 1897 sold to the Southern Coal Co. (later the Corrimal Coke Co., then Allied Steel & Coal) with whom it worked until as late as 1964 - a working career of a century!
