DescriptionNo.24 General military hospital, Heliopolis.jpg
English: No.24 General military hospital, Heliopolis.
During WW1, the Australian Army established a number of facilities in and around Cairo. A Field Hospital was set up in Luna Park and a large base camp at the aerodrome. The large Heliopolis Hotel became No. 24 General Hospital. There was a Training Base at Zeitoun (Dad’s Zutun) occupied by New Zealand units. After their return from Mudros after the withdrawal from Galippoli the 3rd Australian General Hospital was established at Abbassaia.
