English: DETAIL OF RIGHT SIDE of illustration titled "The Returned Soldier", featured in Harper's Weekly article about the "Noroton Home" later called the "Fitch Home" for veterans and orphans in the Noroton section of Darien, Connecticut, article published March 17, 1866. Store Web page states: "the article “SOLDIERS AND ORPHANS HOME (aka Noroton Home) AT DARIEN (CT)” containing FOUR (4) original wood engraved views: [...] “‘THE RETURNED SOLDIER’” (3 1/4” X 2 1/4”)." The Web page quotes from the original article as follows: "We illustrate on this page the Home for Disabled Soldiers and Orphan Children of such as have died in military service in defense of the country, which, by the munificence of Mr. Benjamin Fitch, has been erected at Darien, Connecticut [...] Mr. Benjamin Fitch, the founder of this Institution, after giving the building and grounds now occupied, worth originally $8000 or $10,000, placed in the hands of the trustees $5000 to be invested as a permanent fund, and $5000 to be expanded in a wing containing a kitchen, dining-room, and a beautiful hall for the use of the institution [...]"
