Description
English: The new Austrian Imperial chartered company set up by Flemish merchants in the early 1720s to trade with the East Indies (the Ostend Company) was met with considerable hostility from the established English, Dutch and French East India companies. On the left, the first page of an open letter denouncing the "pernicious" Imperial company. On the right, the first page of a French royal edict prohibiting French subjects from doing business with the new company.
