Summary

Description Pōtatau Te Wherowhero, Waikato chief, Taken at the Marae of the Great Waikato people the Ngāti Māhanga tribe of Te Papa o Rotu. He became the first Māori king in 1858. He is drawn seated beside a log, wrapped in a blanket observing the cultivations happening in the gardens, in traditional style taken in Whatawhata in 1844.
